The Office of VSA and Accessibility at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., has two internship positions open for Summer 2015. We've got a summer full of exciting programming to execute and could use some talented and enthusiastic interns to help us. Please spread the word if you know someone who would be a great candidate for either of the positions listed below.

For more details and to apply, visit www.kennedy-center.org/education/internships/. Kennedy Center Internships are full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (20-30 hours per week) unpaid opportunities.

Education – VSA Communications and Marketing Intern

The VSA Communications and Marketing Intern will have the opportunity to assist in social media and other promotional efforts for three large-scale events taking place in summer 2015. This internship will focus on the creation of marketing content on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WordPress), including text and graphics, as well as assisting in developing marketing calendars for each event. Other promotional efforts may include drafting press releases, communicating with vendors, researching marketing opportunities, and interfacing with the public. Intern will also assist in staffing these events, as needed, requiring some evening and weekend hours from July 16 – August 7, 2015. Candidates will be asked to consider extending their internship dates through August 14, 2015.

We are seeking someone who is self-motivated, creative, energetic, and a team player. A unique, clever voice for crafting marketing language and/or experience with graphic design are pluses. Candidates should possess familiarity and/or interest in the arts, education, and/or disability; have excellent writing and proof reading skills as well as a professional demeanor; and be social media savvy, highly organized, and detail-oriented. Candidates should submit a relevant professional writing sample (i.e. blog post, e-blast, press release, sample social media posts, promotional event announcement, etc.).

Education – VSA Special Events Intern

The VSA Special Events Intern will participate in the preparation and execution of two high-profile, public events in summer 2015. The first, a month-long celebration of the history, art, and culture of the disability experience, will take place in July 2015 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the 40th anniversary of the founding of VSA. The second, the 2015 VSA Intersections: Arts and Special Education Conference will take place August 3-4, 2015. The internship will provide experience in event and conference planning and execution, including: production and logistics; correspondence with registrants, artists, other Kennedy Center departments, and the public; marketing and outreach; travel and hotel arrangements; and additional administrative and logistical support as needed. Intern will also assist in staffing these events, as needed, requiring some evening and weekend hours from July 16 – August 7, 2015. Candidates will be asked to consider extending their internship dates through August 14, 2015.

Experience with event and/or conference planning, artist services, operations, or house management a plus. Candidates should possess familiarity and/or interest in the arts, event management or production, and/or disability; be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently; have excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor. Candidates should submit a writing sample (no more than 2 pages).
