Those with developmental or intellectual disabilities often have a higher risk of being obese than the general population. Because of this, it’s important to make sure those people get the adequate nutrition they need, rather than following basic guidelines. Those who aren’t able to be as physically active as the general population should take in fewer calories, and those who have difficulty feeding themselves should seek their caloric intake from nutritious meal replacements, rather than sugary or fatty liquids.
