Why Bullying Prevention Is Important to Us:

Ten U.S. studies have found that children with disabilities were two to three times more likely to be bullied than their non-disabled peers. AJE values inclusion and celebrating differences in every individual to make our community a safe place for all. Bullying can affect everyone including those who are bullied, those who bully, and those who witness bullying. Bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on children's academic achievement, mental health, substance use, and suicide.

How We Address Bullying Issues:

  • Community Education: We provide FREE trainings and workshops to parents and professionals on how to address bullying concerns, and to students on positive peer relationships.
  • Policy Advocacy: AJE advocates for improved policies to address bullying issues in schools and in our communities. In October 2014, AJE submitted comments to the D.C. Office of Human Rights on the Proposed Rulemaking and addition of Chapter 15 Youth Bullying Prevention to Title 4 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (DCMR).
  • Direct Assistance to Families: AJE provides FREE one-on-one assistance to families to resolve bullying concerns in schools and in the community.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: AJE partners with community stakeholders and serves on the Mayor's Youth Bullying Prevention Task Force.
