The ED GAMES EXPO is the government’s annual showcase of educational games, as well as innovative forms of learning and assistive technologies. On Tuesday, January 8 from 4PM to 8PM, attendees can demo more than 100 games and technologies, while meeting face-to-face with the developers. The games and tech are for students ages 3 to 18, and cover a range of topics, such as science, engineering, making, math, reading, vocabulary, and social studies, and to facilitate social skills and support students with or at risk for disabilities. The Expo is free and open to the public, and is a great experience for children, students, parents, teachers, and all stakeholders interested in learning emerging forms of games and tech. Most of the games and technologies at the Expo were developed with the support of more than 25 government programs, including the SBIR programs at ED/IES, NSF, USDA, NIH, and NIDLRR, as well as programs across several offices at ED (IES, OSEP, OCTAE, and OII); and at NSF; HHS; NIH; USDA; EPA; NASA; ONR; the Wilson Center; the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities; the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress, and others. Opportunities for DC-Area Schools on January 7 & 8 In addition to the public Expo the evening of January 8, we are planning two unique opportunities for DC-area schools. On Monday, January 7th from 10AM to 2PM, school classrooms and groups can visit the Kennedy Center to demo games, meet the developers, and join the “How the Learning Games Were Made” presentations by game developers. And on Tuesday, January 8th from 8:30AM to 10:30AM, a select group of learning game developers will be available to visit Washington DC-area schools to demo their games and engage in a Q&A with students about being a game developer.
