Call for Participants: Marymount Research Study

Recruiting Participants For A Dissertation Research Study Of Coping Strategies of the Lived Experience of African American Fathers In Parenting a Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Phenomenological Approach

If you are an African American/Black American man between the ages of 20-80, you are invited to share your personal experiences in a research study. The purpose of this qualitative research study is to gain a greater understanding of the coping strategies of African American/Black American fathers of a child/children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). By sharing your experiences, it may assist in informing counselors, counselor educators, and others in health service related fields about how these coping strategies may impact your life, whether negative or positive.

Individuals who meet the research study criteria will complete a brief demographic questionnaire, signed informed consent, and participate in an individual one-on-one 60 minute audio-recorded interview. Also, all participants will be allowed to review his responses and provide any additional feedback after the transcription of their initial interview. Any personal information that you provide will remain confidential, and there will be nothing identifiable connected to your responses. Participants who agree to participate in the research study will be entered into a random raffle for one of two $50 Target gift cards.

Criteria for eligibility

    :
  • African American/Black American Men between the ages of 20-80
  • Father of child/children with ASD
  • U.S. born citizens
  • English speaking
  • Open to discussing their coping strategies
  • Agree to an informed consent
