Readers are Leaders: A Family Affair 
Encourage Resource Parents, Biological Parents and CFSA youth Birth-12 to join us, Saturday June 3rd, 9AM-4PM, at CFSA 200 I Street SE, Washington DC for the Readers are Leaders in-service training. This new training will educate our children and families about the importance of engaging in learning activities over the summer break. Caregivers will the learn ways foster parents and biological parents can partner together to engage in pre-reading and reading activities and use their community as a learning laboratory to promote children's literacy and healthy development. While they get information about the DC Public Library's Summer Reading Program and other educational opportunities available at the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and Smithsonian Museums, children will be entertained doing learning-based activities they can do at home. DCPS Kindergarten-Grade 8 Summer Reading Program  
DCPS students can register now! DCPS is proud to partner with Springboard Collaborative to offer a summer reading program. Over five weeks, scholars will learn the joy of reading as they read together as a class, in small groups, and independently. Dates: Monday through Friday, June 26 through July 28, 2017 (except July 4 holiday) Times: 8 am to 1 pm for current Kindergarten through 8th grade. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided and there is no enrollment fee. Go to dcps.dc.gov/summerlearning to register for Summer Learning. DCPS Intermediate-Middle School English Language Learner Summer Academic Program 
Program offers English Language Learners (ELLs) in grades 4-8 a rigorous, personalized academic summer program to support students' English language development. ELLs will be better prepared to succeed with content area learning in the fall as a result of attending. Dates: Monday through Friday, June 26 to July 28, 2017 (except July 4 holiday). Times: 8:30 am to 12:30 pm (optional extension 12:30 to 4:30 pm). Student Grade Levels: Current 3rd through 7th grade (rising 4th through 8th grade) Location: Columbia Heights Education Campus (CHEC). Breakfast and Lunch provided free. DCPS High School English Language Learner Summer Academic Program 
A summer school program for English language learners, grades 9-12, to be held at three DCPS high school sites. Students who participate develop greater English proficiency, advance through courses and grade levels and are supported as they work towards high school graduation. High school students in grades 9-12 will continue with their English language development, engage in credit recovery, and pursue original credits in core content and elective classes if found eligible. DCPS Summer School Information: Registration has begun!
DCPS High School Summer School (Credit Recovery). High School Summer School provides summer credit recovery opportunities to high school students who are not currently on track to graduate. Summer school classes are longer than traditional school year classes to ensure that students are given the time needed to recover their credits. Dates: Monday through Friday, June 26 through July 28, 2017 (except July 4 holiday). Times: 8 am to 3:30 pm. Student Grade Levels: Current 9th through 12th grade. Breakfast and lunch provided for free. Students can begin to register for High School Summer School beginning in late March with their counselor. DCPS Extended School Year (ESY)
In ESY, students receiving special education services will work on the critical skills identified in their IEPs. Instruction, services, and programming will be individualized to meet their specific needs to ensure they will be ready to start the school year in the fall. This program is only open to students who have been found eligible for ESY during their IEP meeting. Dates: Monday through Friday, July 3 through July 28, 2017 (except July 4 holiday)Times:8 am to 1 pm at all grade PK-5 sites, 9 am to 2 pm at all grade 6-12 sites.
